What's your favorite under $20 mechanical pencil?

My list is the same as my overall. Not only are more expensive pencils typically overpriced for what they provide, I have not found one of them that offers anything better than a typical $5 to $10 Pentel (and others).

Take your pick from the Sharps, Sharplets, PG5, and a couple others for a great pencil.

Some others: Derwent Precision. Koh-i-Noor Mephisto. Pilot S3, S5, S10, and for non-drafting pencils many of Pilot's cheaper shakers. Alvin Draft-Matic. Sakura Sumo Grip.

Kaweco, rOtring, (Graf von) Faber Castell, and others have not improved on the mechanisms or designs of pencils like the PG5.

Some people like the weight of high-end rOtrings, but this can be found more reasonable prices from Pilot, Alvin, Koh-i-Noor, and others—and again, without any discernible loss in quality.

I have no interest in prestige pricing. Unless you've commissioned your pencil, prices above 20—or maybe 30—USD are marked up for prestige.
