What's your gift giving strategy?

I think of the person's interests, what they have previously expressed, and whenever I think of a gift, I'll write it down

Examples: Joe loves Avatar The Last Airbender and has no wall art. For his bday, I got art commissioned in the Avatar style and framed it. I did not know anything about Avatar when I did this.

Leo loves Zelda, but doesn't want any more store-bought Zelda items. Cuz chances are, he has it already. So I crocheted a Navi for Christmas for him. I don't know anything about Zelda

As an aside: Leo got me a clear teapot for my bday because I love tea, but don't have a teapot. Moreover, it's clear because I bought color-changing tea, but havent used it yet because my lack of light-colored / clear tea cups. He also bought me blossoming tea because he wanted to get me flowers, but I'm allergic. He doesn't know anything about tea
