You need strong classroom management. Put downs of race, orientation or ability are not tolerated in my classroom. Regardless of them being aimed at a student or teacher. Remember you are trying to foster a safe and inclusive learning environment. Every teacher should expect a “fuck you” sometime in there career but there are ways to handle this. Also, you’re there to teach the curriculum. Your personal life should not be something openly discussed in the classroom. Honestly, if the kids are insulting me behind my back I don’t really care....but you try your hardest to build a relationship and get to know your students. If you’re in it for the right reason then this is not something you need to worry.
