What's your "the one that got away" story?

So I was a total introvert in high school (I'm almost 23 now). I had a very small circle of friends and never really went out of my way to meet more people. I usually let them kind of find me. So I was an aide for a math teacher my sophomore year and there was this one girl in the class that was the total opposite of me in like every way. She was really cute, just very loud and outgoing. I didn't think too much of her then. When the school year was over we ended up getting connected on Facebook, though we didn't talk much. Then I'd say about 3/4 of the way into my junior year we started talking on Facebook and I'd see her around school. Summer going into senior year we talked a lot while I was out of the state. I knew that I was really starting to like her, and she made it pretty clear that she cared about me a great deal. Now, I've always been terrified to let people in, so I naturally started pushing away a little bit. During my senior year I saw her around, but tried to avoid her because I knew that if I got caught up with her again I wouldn't leave my home state after high school (I was going to leave and live with family in another state so I could experience a change).

That was the dumbest decision I had ever made. She may be the total opposite of me, but I think she was actually perfect for me. I ended up moving back around when she graduated from high school (only a year after me) and we hung out a few times, but I think by then she was over the whole thing that could have been with me. She ended up marrying another guy and has a kid with him now. We still have this connection where we don't talk for a long time and then we can have a pretty stimulating conversation. I still try to visit her when I can, but I also keep my distance because she's married and is starting a family now.

But with the few other girls that I was crazy about when I was a teenager, this is the one that really sticks out to me. The funniest thing is that I wasn't as caught up with her as I was the other girls.
