What's your opinion on forcing gender-neutral language?

german speaker here, i'll have to delete this later since it gives too much personal info.. anyways

i find the symbols okay in writting but you're right it's hard to distinguish it from the feminine words when speaking. i too find this absurd. no offense to german nbs but the amount of real non binary people, the ones who have dysphoria not the ones who think gender=clothes/interests/political stance, is so tiny, i don't think it's worth making everyone who speaks german learn a new hard to speak version of german to accommodate them...

not to mention this is gonna mess up nd people and people who already struggle with the language ie learning disabilities and non native speakers. i meet so many non native speakers who still struggle with pronouns and gendering words (who in turn get treated like theyre morons or worse -_- why add transphobe to the list). this also includes my family. if they as immigrants can't learn der/die/das how are they gonna learn new ones that are tongue twisters when used. it seems insane to me to propose we add even More stuff. plus isn't this treating nb as a third gender then? unless the point is to remove käufer and käuferinn and only leave käufy.

the only thing i would be fine with is going back to the generic masculine words. i've never heard anyone say "ich muss heute zum arzt oder ärztin/arzt_innen (ärzt_innen?)" because they don't know the gender yet, what i hear people say instead is "ich muss heute zum arzt". or maybe everyone at my school(s) and life so far has been a misogynistic transphobe and language is never used to be convenient /j
