Whats your Synthesizer journey?

How did you get into synthesizers?

I had basically zero exposure to electronic music until I was 16 or so and even then just a little bit. I mean apart from pop music, which i didn't really ever listen to at all. I played guitar, bass and piano and was mainly into metal and jazz. At around 18 or so, I found Aphex Twin and thought his music sounded really cool, so i got into electronic music production.

What are you doing with it/them now? (producing, only fooling around, etc....)

I made a lot of music (mainly dnb and psytrance) when i got into electronic music, but now it's just a hobby (also my musical interests have turned around pretty much 180 degrees). I do some dsp programming and sound design for friends when the opportunity or need arises. Other than that i experiment and work towards a musical goal that keeps shifting just enough to not be able to ever grab it. But maybe one day i'll get there and maybe i'll even record it for someone to listen to. We shall see. I'm not stressing out about it.

What synths do or did you own?

That list is way too long.

Where are you headed? What synths, projects, music, etc... are you looking forward to?

Currently I spend a lot more time thinking and reading about and listening to music than making music. That's been pretty much the other way around for at least the last 15 years, so it's very refreshing. Have learned a ton about composition and classical music in the last two years or so and i feel like that has had quite an interesting effect on how i see music in general and it has had a huge impact on how i approach electronic music as well. In particular things like orchestration were something that i just improvised before and now i find myself thinking about it in much more detail. Still have a ton of work to do to put all that thought into practice, but it's a lot of fun so far.
