What's your towns dark secret?

Our town had a sociology book written about it. When the townspeople heard there was going to be a book and get to be interviewed for it, they were so proud and happy that our town was going to get the attention it well deserved.

The book was published and the identity of the town and it's landmarks / street names anonymized -- "Daisy Lane" became "Blossom Avenue", etc.

It was a sociology text, and it studied the social interactions and passtimes of this average midwestern community -- including activities like prostitution, sex with farm animals, and other such unsavory things that exist in every town in America that nobody talks about. It also exposed some of the classist dirty laundry of the community between the haves and the have nots.

The town told the author he was unwelcome to come back. If you checked out the book or even inquired about it at the library you got put on a list. It has long passed, but mention of the book was verboten.

When I went to college, I found the book in the room of one of my friends -- it was assigned reading for his class.
