Honestly? I'm not sure it would catch on. Not because there couldn't be some great works done on this theme...

But simply because of the very nature of the community we have here affecting the voting and commenting to be such a disincentive bias that I don't think it would catch on.

I mean even the name of the community is humanity fuck yeah, which is phrasing cribbed from team America a film which was a parody of American exceptionalism.

But this sub is as an ethos about stories of human exceptionalism.

The very core point of what people come here to read vote and comment on is a fundamental philosophical core column of American thinking.

I lived in Japan for a couple of years, and I'm pretty confident that if someone wrote a story which had a truly Japanese cultural mindset behind it, that I would not even remotely fit the whole "humanity fuck yeah" theme.

Japanese people are not self aggrandising, they are the opposite, they are self effacing and modest and value cooperation and community, gentleness and consideration.

It just wouldn't fit the sub, it likely wouldn't be upvoted, and it wouldn't attract a following here I think because it's not what the community audience is here for.

So I think any such stories would be lost in the ether here most likely... Or lost in the crowd of egotistical power fantasies which most people come here for and vote up.

Now don't get me wrong, nothing I object to with having a lot of original power fantasy fuck yeah stories. I'm here for that and appreciate them too..

I just don't think this sub will likely broaden out of its niche into a wider more diverse sci-fi subreddit, because I think the niche (western egotism driven sci-fi) is too core to what has out this community together and keeps it together.

I would like to see a good more broad sci-fi am-fiction out there which was as successful as this one.

But I very much would expect I would be subscribed there and here, not that this subreddit could become that sub.
