When the Beatles performed in the Philippines...

The Beatles played the first of their two concerts at the Rizal football stadium at 4 pm before a crowd of 30,000. The band performed on a small stage behind a wire fence. Pilita Corrales, the Reycards and the Downbeats were among the six local support acts. The second show took place at 8.30 and was attended by 50,000 fans.

The combined total of 80,000 was the largest audience to see the Beatles in concert on a single day. The band were well received by their fans, although the poor sound and the distance from the stage was a problem for many.

In his review of the concerts, Filipino writer Nick Joaquin detected a halfheartedness in the Beatles' performance and said that even the fans' screams "seemed mechanical, not rapture but exhibitionism". Another reviewer concluded: "The sound was terrible, The Beatles were terrific."
