When a big company sees a detailed post breaking down their game using a word they've never considered and it gets over 40 Reddit gold.

I'm not sure you understood it completely just cause of this:

There has always been a way to play the game optimally, it's just that the mechanics are more out in the open and everyone uses sites to read up on how to play.

Its not about there only being one optimal path. He specifically talks about this in the post. Icy veins has existed for a long time and before that there was thotbot and all sorts of other stuff. People have always found an optimal build or way to play. The important part is if I chose x glyph because it was better than the others, even if everybody choose that same glyph it was still a choice.

That sounds pedantic but it is true. I enjoy making choices that optimize my character, even if everybody makes the same ones. It is the fact I am actively progressing my character that means anything. Most people could give less shits how their choices compare to others when it comes to stuff like gears, talents, glyphs, etc.
