When did you realize your parents aren't the smartest people in the world?

I guess I've know that my parents aren't the type who like to be educated for quite a while, but only recently has it really bugged me.

I'm not saying that I think they're dumb, but I'm irritated when they constantly complain about every little thing, yet refuse to listen to any suggestions/advice from me because I'm younger than them:

My dad's been complaining about how he's always having car problems. I told him to maybe consider a body-on-frame vehicle (truck/SUV) because they're more robust. He gets mad and starts shouting that it's a myth and that I don't know anything about cars, yet he'll continue to complain that the suspension is wearing out.

Mom's always complaining about her (abusive) relatives who constantly contact her. Now this is a serious problem in which I have told her countless times to: ignore/block their calls, and tell them that they are awful people for taking advantage of her. She's slowly doing that, but then she wants to go out of town to meet a niece (daughter of abusive relatives).

I drive her around due to her arthritis, and whenever she gets in the car, she starts going off on how awful they are. I told her recently that she should listen to my advice and to stop yelling about them in my car because it makes me feel shitty and distracts me while driving. She gets pissed off and won't change the subject.

My parents are in an arranged marriage (mom doesn't speak English). It's not their fault, but it is really hard to help them since they don't want to listen. I've always been the "good son" who's always home to help, and now it's kicking my ass because I don't have the life/work/social experience needed to become independent.
