When did your "Something is very wrong here" feeling turned out to be true?

I'd posted this a few weeks ago on /r/tifu

A friend I'd just met the other day at church contacted me asking about my day. He sounded friendly but his exuberance and almost-aggressive barrage of questions was out-of-character compared to how he was in-person earlier in the day. He called me last night without notice and started mentioning about a business opportunity his friend was an executive of and how he'd like us to meet. Attempted to probe him for more information but he wouldn't say. Just stated to be ready by tomorrow evening — a few hours ago. Mistake 1 Bloke came in a nice black car, dressed in a three-piece suit. Mentioned that his friend shares our religion and tries to put him on a good light. At the meeting, a couple of similarly-dressed people tried to build rapport a bit too aggressively, also mentioning their shared religious backgrounds. Friend's friend gives a polished, hour-long presentation with appeals to emotion — you'll look stunning after taking this supplement — and credibility — our products have been cross-tested with the NSF and FDA. Comes to me after and asks for my input and whether I was ready. Like an arse, I said 'yes' and pay US$800 for a mid-tier package, consumed with the allure of unrivalled income potential. Mistake 2 Thought it over on the way back and realised I hadn't listened to my gut when I'd realised it was an MLM. I'm going to call him up tomorrow and ask to refund the payment and opt out of everything. Haven't signed up for the account they've set up. tl;dr Mistook friend's business for friendship, stupidly bought in MLM and quite possibly lost US$800. Lesson learnt.
