When and how did you get interested in F1?

Dad.

My dad started watching in the 60's and his heros were Clark and Stewart. He told me stories when I was growing about F1 and about going to Watkins Glen.

In the mid-90s Speedvision started in the US and my dad instantly added it to our cable subscription. He was a McLaren fan since he was a fan of Bruce McLaren back in the 60s. I was a supporter of Hakkinen and due to his pride in our Scottish heritage he was a fan Coulthard.

We would spend hours talking about F1, the races, his favorite drivers, our predictions for the next race etc.

We went to the first race at Indianapolis and had a total blast together. He did his best to cheer me up when Hakkinen retired from the lead.

Unfortunately he passed the following year unexpectedly. We went to the USGP we bought 1:64th scale versions of the the 1998 Mclaren. At his funeral I put the Coulthard car in his jacket pocket and I kept the Hakkinen car in a safe place at home. It's still there today.

Round about way to tell you my motorsports obsession started with my dad, but we went to many races together (Indycar, ALMS, Nascar) and he was my biggest fan when I was karting.

Good trip down memory lane.
