When you pay for your driving license

It's crazy to me how easy it is to get a license here in the US, and for how incredibly cheap.
I mean, they plop people in a 4000lbs metal death machine so they can practice driving in regular traffic. Sure, you're supposed to have a licensed driver with you while you're driving with your permit, but what good does that do? They have no actual control over the car or the driver. That's insane to me!

In Germany you have to have at least 25-45 hours of professional instruction plus 12 hours of theory, and of course you gotta be 18 years old, first. The hardest part, for me, was to come up with 2500-3000 Euros for all of this, though.
Of course, that doesn't mean all German drivers are accident free F1 prodigies.
