“When a person can no longer control you, they will try to control how others perceive you. The misinformation will seem unfair, but stay above it, trusting that other people will eventually see the truth - just like you did.”

I'll never forget when at my dads 60th birthday party I was talking to some friends of my parents all night, really got along, then my mother jumped in and started with her "Ah yes this is my mentally ill daughter I told you about", they were shocked and looked at me like wtf is your mother doing? And asked me if I was okay with her talking like that about me, especially right in front of me.

Wonder what she had told them about me. It was pretty satisfying to see some "outsiders" react to her behaviour so clearly. It was a real eye-opener for me when it comes to allowing her to put me down without even reacting or even realising. I don't think they spend time with them at all anymore.
