When you want to propose to your boyfriend but they have plans of their own

Totally jealous.. My engagement ended up being straight work (in the best way possible though).

Had it all planned out. She had been asking me to take her on a hike in the mountains. I knew this hidden overlook at the top of a mountain on the Appalachian Trail that most people don't know about, should be private and the perfect place.

So we wake up that day, she says to see if my brother wants to come (we were roommates at the time), I can't even remember the excuse I had to make to keep her from having me invite him, I actually worked it out to slip out before he woke up because he didn't even know I was planning that day and spot, probably would have ruined it.

Problem was, he actually knew for sure which mountain it was. So what was supposed to be a relatively easy 1.5 mile hike to the top, ended up being a 3.5 mile fucking expert hike, climbing up rocks and everything. We were both dead when we got up there, was still a nice view and fairly private, but she was so miserable that I was pretty sure she would have said no if I asked then. Hell, I was too tired to ask then anyway.

So we had the beers I brought and snacks, hung out for a little while, until we went to look over the overlook one more time before we left. I said, fuck it, this isn't all perfect, but it was the perfect timing, and I dropped to a knee. She was so surprised that she literally couldn't stop laughing, but it did end up actually being perfect.

Then her dog took off on the way back because we'd foolishly thought he was doing fine off a leash. By the time we'd found him over an hour later, we had to hike back down in the dark hoping my phone's flashlight wasn't going to die as she was holding my arm trying not to fall down rocks. It was awful.

It was a lesson to us that we still have to remind ourselves to this day, that things don't ever seen to come easy, but that we can be the difference when we really try.

Fortunately was able to make it up on our first anniversary, made it a secret again until we got there, but found and rented an amazing cabin in the area, did the hike that we were supposed to, as picture here. It doesn't seem as impressive in pictures, but those are mountains from hundreds of feet up, and you could see out forever.

Now 2 1/2 years married for us, going strong, I still can't believe she said yes to this crazy experiment. Sorry for the long winded comment, thanks if you're still reading, but your engagement is memorable even if it's a total disastor.
