When the Republicans are considered the working class party, something is seriously fucked up.

To say that nationalism isn't a component of right wing politics is hilariously misleading, and incorrect. And then to say it "can" be a feature of left wing politics, like communism is just garbage, it isn't true at all. Communism is partially about the abolition of the state, and if you know anything at all about history, nationalism followed on from the idea of a state.

I revised my original comment as I meant to say that nationalism isn't exclusively a right wing ideology, it's undoubtedly a key component of right wing politics however it would be fallacious to say that communism and nationalism haven't been intertwined.

Hell got own flair is of the Viet Cong, which is a perfect example of my point (Khmer Rouge would be another). In a wartime or colonial context nationalism has been utilized by communist movements, especially when highlighting the fact that the bourgeoise of a colonized nation are outsiders or when rallying against an invading nation. This also would've been the case within the context of WWII when Stalin spoke of "the Soviet peoples" or made appeals to the history of Russia repelling invaders during the war, it may have been limited within WWII, but nationalism was present in the rhetoric of Stalin in that period.

To say that Stalin was outright nationalist was admittedly a mistake on my part, but as to the general connection between nationalism and anti-colonial communist movements I think it would be wildly incorrect to pretend that communist movements are inherently devoid of nationalism.
