When things changed

First attempt at writing. Here it goes -

At first, I couldn’t decide if I was more shocked by the shockwave…or by the fact that the “beast” on my final day would actually just be a God-damned monster coming from the clouds. How boring, I thought. I guess you could say I’ve been waiting for this moment my entire life.

“To be honest, humans are quite tiresome,” I replied. The beast was quite big. The outer skin appeared as thick, worn leather. But smooth, as silk would be.

The beast stated, “Quite clever boy. At least you know what shall happen next. And I will enjoy this immensely. I’ve waited three eternities.”

Violent columns of wind were ravaging the numberless skyscrapers in the distance. Hundreds of miles of land as far as the eye could see, flattened in an instance. Tens of billions dead. An utter travesty…is what I suppose a normal human feels.

The air settled and every cloud had dissipated along the horizon. I finally saw the monster in its full form. All of a sudden, a flash of brilliant light turned my vision white. Blood erupted from the side of my head. I reached to touch my face but I couldn’t feel a thing.

Blinded and deafened, my senses were completely lost. I only made out a shape—one like that of a man or a woman. The beast must have changed form, I thought.

“How mundane. At least choose a more interesting design to kill me,” I said.

“All this time and knowledge, yet you still understand nothing,” the beast responded.

See, for one such as me…I can never die. I’ve lived for hundreds and hundreds of millennia. I have witnessed the Cycle many, many times. From emptiness into life, and back again. I have seen the pantheon. And truly, I do get quite bored.

“You are the only being that can kill me, beast. Maybe to your surprise, I’ve actually wished for this just as much as you,” I said as I coughed up blood.

Darkness began to envelope me. The beast replied, “No…You haven’t.”

It struck me…Fear. It was the first emotion I ever felt since I.

Closing my eyes, I declared, “Kill me slowly.”
