When you're getting downvoted to oblivion but don't regret what you said

You are correct that the vast majority of people who identify as feminists are also interested in equality. It's too easy to mistake the feminist movement for one of equality as most of the people you meet who identify as feminists are actually more interested in equality but call that feminism.

However there's far to many things done in the name of feminism that I simply cannot support. "Positive discrimination" for example. Theres not enough women in x field we need to "positively" discriminate to get more women by quota. I can't stand this idea at all, employ the best people regardless of gender. You might ask if this actually happens so I'll give two verifiable cases that directly effect me. As an engineering student I could get a grant of over £1000 a year and guaranteed summer placements with one of the biggest car manufactures in the UK if I was a female. That is pretty much the only criteria for that particular grant. I'm sure it's obvious how these placements and the money would make university easier and employment opportunities greatly enhanced post education. This is boasted about as a good thing as there is a huge amount more men then women on my course (It's something like 70:4 no denying it) but to make it easier for women than men is just so unfair. Both men and women work equally hard to get on the course and earn their grades and the girls get money and industry experiance just for there gender. Another is the entrance requirements for the military. Apparently it's important to be able to do so many press ups, sit ups and reach a certain time to cover a mile and a half run. I can see how that would be relevant but why are the women allowed to be slower, do less repetitions and do half press ups from there knees? It's a body weight exercise so I don't see why they should be allowed to half ass it. Either it's important to hit those targets so everyone needs to do so or it isn't so no one does. I know many girls who agree and I have great respect for one of my friends who despite being female trained until she could hit all the mens targets and refused to do half press ups when the officer told her too.

Theres so many examples of bias against men in the name of "equality" for women these days it's just wrong. Just like it was wrong to deny women the vote or pay them less on the basis of gender it's wrong to set different standards for males then females.
