Whenever I visit my father he always has this old rusty cast iron boiling water “for humidity”… can anyone share why this is either ok or (assumed)harmful to be breathing in?

How is this even a discussion in a cast iron/cooking subreddit?

Gas stoves are preferred by nearly every home chef I've ever talked to.

Benefits include: instant direct heat. Which is huge in cooking. To say there are zero benefits is astounding. Why would gas be preferred by so many?

I didn't see anything about environmental pollution when reading news articles about the recent gas stoves initiative. The articles cited interior air quality and it's connection to asthma and other breathing issues. Which, when gas stoves/ovens are properly ventilated, is a non issue.

So instead of getting rid of gas stoves, how about we make proper oven ventilation a bit more mandatory? I'm amazed people support this initiative.
