Where are you from and why are you a fan?

I'm from Manchester and am a lifelong Man City fan (you've probably jumped to a conclusion already, and you're not wrong, but you're also not entirely right).

My wife is from Vermont, and when were first seeing each other she was splitting her time between Vermont and New York, so we had a lot of good times in the city. We moved to Los Angeles a few years ago and I was determined that I would get into MLS. Based on my points of connection to the US I had narrowed it down to four options:

New England Revolution - I'm English... you honestly think I'm going to support the Revolution?

New York Red Bull - We had talked about going to see them one time a few years previously but from my wife's reaction upon learning the location of their stadium you'd think they were based in Mordor.

Chivas USA - I was quite optimistic about this one given that they seemed to be the team of the immigrants. Then I started interacting with their fans online and I started feel like the wrong shade of immigrant.

Los Angeles Galaxy - I went to see them live and I tried to conjure up some support but it just wasn't happening. I don't honestly like LA that much to begin with (I'm not good enough at hiding my contempt for mankind to really flourish here).

So that was more or less it. I still occasionally tried to muster up interest and would catch games here and there (I mostly found myself watching RSL and SKC) but nothing really stuck until NYCFC came along.

I probably would have been excited about the club just from being a Man City fan, but I don't think I'd have created and put so much time into a subreddit for them without those happy memories of the city.
