To be fair, the initial lockdown was effective (albeit belatedly). We have also been effective in reducing hospitalisation and death rates.

On the negative side :-

  • Initial discouragement of mask use - followed by U turn.
  • PPE procurement fiasco.
  • COVID app procurement fiasco - followed by U turn
  • Cummings destroyed public confidence with his Durham trip

And Boris recently made the mistake of pretending that COVID didn't exist and that we needed to all get back to offices (with the implications for public transport) for seemingly political and economic reasons.

So I think the Government judgement is at best hit and miss. With more misses than hits in recent times.
