Where CoD eSports went wrong, and how we can remedy the problem.

I believe that many people undervalue the extent to which CoD eSports have grown recently. While the quality of the games have fallen, the infrastructure supporting CoD is stronger than ever. There is money in the scene, it is backed by developers, and players are finally able to be financially stable off CoD alone.

From a livelihood perspective, CoD is doing great. Any movement towards a strike or a complete rejection of the system jeopardizes the safety that these pro players have. If you try to pull away from the system, you not only lose the support of the developers, but also the support of any companies associated with the developers and any large orgs who joined because of this new found support.

However, I will agree that CoD was the most fun to play during BO2 and it was certainly at its peak in terms of quality of the game itself. There's no denying that this was the peak of the CoD community. However, it is foolish to assume that a rejection of the system will lead us back to that peak. It is only because of dev support that we ever reached it.

I think, at least for the time being, CoD eSports is not large enough to sustain a rejection from the system and still maintain its current financial and infrastructure stability. There's no clear path forward, but I would argue that there's no reason to jump off this ship until we are certain that there is a better path forward.
