Where is everyone with A1c targets?

T1/LADA, Levemir, no other diabetes meds. Only worry about lows when it's not under control and I have to up dosage. Current A1C is 5.5% -- aiming for 5.2% next, and 5.0% or 4.8% if at all possible. The endo & doctors all recommend 6.0% to 6.5% because they are so terribly afraid of hypoglycemic episodes killing me. I have never had a significant low because I test frequently, and low-carb with exercise, so I use only enough insulin, no more. The Endo and doctors are correct for their other out-of-control patients. The primary admitted he had no experience with T1D at all, and the endo admitted that he has patients walking around at 300-400 every day; and the CDEs said I needed 130 g carbs/day or my brain wouldn't function -- wrong. Why should I adhere to their advice when their patients are nowhere near normal, and their advice is designed to keep their patients at elevated levels? Literally told: "There's no benefit to having an A1C under 6! We have studies! I understand you are concerned about complications, but you are going to pass out in the street and die!" Um, no.
