To play the devils advocate, there's a reason a freedom to say whatever you want without repercussion including the ability to insult people is important. Because the reality is a really shitty one.

As soon as a community starts getting concerned about speech, it provides a gateway for some seriously sick sociopath politicians to police it unimpeded. Unfortunately most people aren't smart enough to know the difference between someone who's legitimately benevolent, and a manipulative person who's going to use the friendly, open and agreeable left for their own personal gain.

They will act like they wanna help and then slip in some laws so nobody can say bad things about them and then its too late. This is why its best to just suck it up and move on.

Many of the extreme right however think its an excuse to throw bottles and harass gays or indians. The reality is that it has nothing to do with freedom of speech, that's called assault and there is already a law against that so we don't need more laws.
