My family is from the town in Syria where Philipp the Arab was born. He named it 'Philippopolis' in his time, but it's now called Shahba, There's lots of ruins and old cobblestone streets, and some people have their houses built in/among the ruins of roman-era houses. It's also an area that used to be volcanic, so there's pumice absolutely everywhere (you often see driveways with small pumice stones instead of normal gravel).
