Where do I start?

This isn't what you'll want to hear, but get a physical junior job in a technical field that eventually can turn into remote work (dev work, digital marketing, etc).

Holy fucking SHIT this is the worst advice I've ever heard. Wow. How is this getting upvoted?

I can't believe how cavalier people are about saying "just spend X years doing Y".

Years? YEARS? You mean those huge chunks of your life that you'll never get back? Your advice is for him to spend YEARS doing some shitty job that he doesn't like? You're insane.

Advice for OP:

Pick a skill that you enjoy (writing for example). Spend like $50 and buy a domain name. Use Wordpress and design a spiffy looking website for free. Market yourself as a professional. Sign up for Upwork. Spend some time and write some great applications to some jobs. Knock out about 4 or 5 inexpensive jobs, but do an amazing job, and make sure to get 5-star reviews.

After you get those reviews, you're a premium commodity. Start applying for high-paying jobs. Congratulations, you're earning several thousand dollars per month, and instead of wasting YEARS of your life taking it up the ass from the man, you've instead established yourself as an independent professional with a huge client list.

(Optional step: go on Reddit and read dozens of threads where people complain that Upwork and similar sites suck because they apply for $4/hour jobs where they're competing with Indonesian farm workers for writing jobs instead of marketing themselves as a premium professional).

Good luck
