Remember last year when five police officers were shot and killed in Dallas? Remember when they subsequently used a robot to go in with C4 and blow up the killer?

The police officers responsible for that decision should be tried for murder, and imprisoned for the rest of their lives.

What happened there was an extrajudicial killing, and a simple act of revenge that should be considered beyond the pale in any civilised nation. Had they went and shot the killer dead as a result of him posing an immediate threat to life then I wouldn't have had an issue. However, they decided to send in that robot with the express purpose of taking the life of a member of the public, a member of the public who, regardless of their previous crimes, was not an immediate threat to them. It is not for any police force to decide who gets to live and die, it is not for them to decide that negotiation is fruitless and the suspect's death is the only outcome. A police officer's job is to protect every single person, even those who have committed a heinous crime against their colleagues, and to do no harm unless they are in immediate danger themselves. The possibility of danger is not an acceptable reason.
