Which country has the darkest history?

Germany-

We're starting with the germanic tribes. A large portion of their food consists in milk, cheese, and flesh, they construct their houses mostly with the desire to keep the cold away.

They had no concept (or at least no desire) of beauty in life, they killed, they fucked, they survived.

Later on the the thirty years war (1618-1648) with twenty million dead civilians, just because of one man who wanted to abolish indulgences. Martin Luther was a hero for the most people and a motivation to get rid of the rulers.

He didn't even want to trigger that, he even said that those who wanted to overthrow the people in charge should be killed.

Even their hero lacked empathy for them. There was literally no one who understood, no one who supported their desire for freedom. They fought alone, hoping for a better future and dying in millions.

About two hundred-twenty years later, Bismarck came and promised to help the working class. The industrial revolution had a massive impact on Germany (and still has today), so a socialist movement had started a few years earlier. Otto von Bismarck formed a welfare state, German universities became world-class centers for science and the humanities, while music and the arts flourished. These golden times did not last very long.

The first world-war came and german people who always had problems with their cold, apathetic ways, stood up for their ally austria. Another example for a meaningless war with millions of dead civilians and soldiers.

After they lost and got fucked over, the german economy was crippled. They had nothing, and the hate inside their hearts was unbearable. Wrath.

Hitler had it easy in a country like this and with people like that. He promised, kind of like Bismarck did, a perfect future for the german people.

But he built that future on the blood of the jewish people who were forced into labor and when no longer usefull, were killed. Of course the holocaust did not only affect the Jews, it also affected Sinti and Roma, Homosexuals, political dissidents etc.

Afterwards, no one wanted to say that they knew, but they did. No one admitted smelling the burning flesh of the people in concentration camps, but they did. No one wanted to admit that they were okay with discrimination/killing of the Jews, their scapegoats, but they were.

German people were and are not evil. They can be good people and they can be bad people.

But the one thing that has stayed through all that time, that killed all those people and that will probably will always be a part of the culture is the apathy.

You can see a country's personality pretty well after losing a war and their ways of teaching it to their children. For example the USA, they try to forget, want to move on and have it deleted from their history. France is very proud of their won wars and it is still prohibited to name a pig Napoleon.

Germany swallowed it, they kept their mouth shut when they lost the first world war and they accepted their fate. Of course they followed Hitlers call, because he wanted to avenge them. Losing the second world war broke their pride and patriotism. Even today, when you ask a german in their twenties how they feel about themselves, they are still pretty pissed about getting called a Nazi when raising their flag.

Germany is kinda like a kid who's interested in building and engineering, wanting to be left alone. He stays in the basement and develops impressive stuff, doesn't give a shit about the other kids. But after getting into fights and losing everytime, he develops some issues that will probably never go away.

TL;DR: Germany getting fucked and being a cold motherfucker wanting wrath
