Which 'great' book/s can you just not get into?

I enjoyed Lord of the Rings and loved the Wheel of Time when I read them the first time, but haven't succeeded when trying to reread them (though, in general, I'm not big on rereading, so that may play into it).

I finished Uprooted but had to force myself to trudge through it. The lack of chemistry between the main characters and the near constant "let's just skip over this very interesting plot point in a few sentences and then spend pages on every detail of this boring non-event" drove me crazy for the first half of the book and then the plot started to feel like it was falling apart when she went to the capital. I did actually like the ending, though.

I read Assassin's Apprentice and chose not to continue that series. The plot was too disjointed and so many of the conflicts felt forced for my tastes. I liked lots of elements of the world, but that's about it.

I'm currently halfway through book 2 of the Belgariad and I think I might stop without finishing the book, much less the series. The first book was the equivalent of the fleeing of the Shire or Emond's Field, but for the whole book. The lack of answers and the multiple fights that have felt entirely void of stakes has just put me off finishing.
