Which insanely popular or successful movie you secretly hate but are afraid to say if in the open fearing backlash from "fans"?

Mystic River.

A friend forced me to watch it. In going on about how it is the most awesome mega super duper movie ever they indirectly let me know enough that I could see the ending coming from the ten minute mark. They then, realizing their mistake, spent the whole movie going on about another movie.

I am sure this is a movie that is good. Because the ending is well foreshadowed and not a random “It’s a twist!” says to me it was written with care. It just is not a genre I enjoy.

An analogy would be like if you had someone who dislikes Sci-fi and really hates alien based movies agree to watch a movie to end the guilt tripping. Then you stick in “War of the Worlds”, Spielberg edition. Accidentally spoil the ending at the ten minute mark. Then proceeded to spend the rest of the movie going on about just how awesome Independence Day was for twenty minutes before just randomly quoting ID4’s memetastic scenes for the rest of the movie.

Like I said. I’m sure “Mystic River” for its genre is good and well liked by those who enjoy the genre. I know it must be well liked because whenever I say “Mystic RIver isn’t my cup of tea” it’s like some sort of Mystic River Amber Alert goes out, and I get hellfire rained upon my by fans of the thing.

I’m near afraid to even acknowledge the film exists.
