Which one do you prefer?

Yeah you’ll find people arguing about whether or not Strobe is his best track all over this sub. Here’s my take:

Cephei is an incredible track and is one of my favorites, definitely near the top of my playlist. But when putting it up against Strobe, from a structural standpoint, it’s not as diverse. I feel like up until the drop at 6:44, Strobe is constantly growing and evolving and after nearly 7 minutes, we’re allowed the relief and pleasure to just sit in this incredible melody, sound quality, and beat that has been building up until it finally fades out. In Cephei the beat and melodies all happen relatively early on so I don’t feel that same sense of top to bottom integrity that I do with Strobe. I feel you miss out on so much if you don’t listen to Strobe from the beginning but Cephei not so much.

Hit Save is a monster of a track and one that I feel we can’t put in the same category, primarily because there are so many iterations and it still hasn’t been released. It’s still evolving and changing and we’ll have to see which version Joel decides to finish and put out, if he publishes it at all. Personally, I think Unlucky sounds incredible so far.

The last thing I’ll add is that I think GG should be considered amongst his greatest tracks. It has a lot of that top to bottom integrity that I talked about earlier and I love Joel’s 64 bar progressions when he does them. Pets is another example of a 64 bar progression and that track is also in my top 5.
