who could have seen this coming

If I was to get divorced, my husband could get about half of what I put into my retirement funds during our marriage. Why? Because it’s not my money. It’s our money. He moved for my job shortly after we got married, which affected his earning and saving potential. Because he works less, he also takes on a higher burden of childcare and housecare. Due to my job, if he was not taking on those responsibilities, I would have to pay for them because I work full time. He is doing these things for our family, just like I am earning for our family and saving for our family. That’s why if our marriage ended, he would get half of the retirement. Usually, a non-earning spouse does not get the entire pension/retirement in a divorce. It is usually half of whatever part of that pension was earned during the marriage. That’s fair.

Here, it looks like OP was an idiot and gave her everything for a stupid gamble that he lost on. That’s on him.
