Nicole Franzel is better than Janelle. Janelle is just a more iconic player.

Janelle is intimidating to women. She is also difficult to read and form working relationships with when you're not aligned with her.

In BB16, Nicole took the same approach as she always does, she was just up against Derrick who started earlier than her and she wasn't in that dominant alliance. Nicole did try a smart play - creating an alliance with Derrick, Hayden, Cody but it was a little too late. You can see she is a serial female cannibal. Play the victim, be someone for the men to protect, be the weak one that they take with her and then chop off their heads at the end. That's her one and only style and it works. She also keeps connections open to form side alliances.

I don't at all think Nicole deserved to win over Paul in BB18, but I do think Nicole would always go far in the game and her nuanced gameplays will make her do very well on an old season. I think she's one of the best females to play, makes it firmly in the Top 10 for females that's for sure.
