Who Spent It Better?

You have no control over how the brain engages with it. Nothing you do can stop that. There are only two means of perfectly removing an addiction and many times you don't even recognize or acknowledge your addiction. Like with smoking, or alcoholism, or sometimes games and many other things like gambling.

First you need to acknowledge it, then you have to recognize when it is happening.

Next you can either use chemical supplements or modifications to the body with risks and side-effects of their own to remove an addiction entirely through time and slow reduction of the quantity of chemical modification until it is negligible.

The second option is to quit cold turkey. The problem with this is that relapses occur at times. In terms of gaming, quitting would be quitting all games entirely because many games have similar mechanics even if not designed to be psychologically addicting or chemically so. If you were addicted to a game and you quit that game and moved to another, in a way you're still feeding your addiction if you're doing similar things.

Cigarettes don't require you to only have that one brand. You can have very similar ones with modified chemical compositions. That's why brands exist, to give options and to at times allay temporary addiction fears.

But if you were to stop all gaming, you might soon find yourself.. thinking about it a lot, and other addiction symptoms would appear in time.

Fully removing an addiction to gaming is hard. There are actual clinics for it. But the severity of your addiction may be.. lesser than others. That being said, game addiction is inherently something few want to acknowledge much less recognize when it occurs.

In any case, cold turkey quitting doesn't remove addiction. It removes yourself from the addicting thing. But like all chemicals, if you do not change the composition based reaction your brain and body has to the addiction and instead just leave it, you are at high risk of relapse the second you do it again. This is why people can become addicted again to cigarettes or quit temporarily and go back.
