I'll be in Iceland from the 28th of June through the 11th of July and camping the entire trip around the country.
Flight from the twin cities (MSP): $600 IcelandAir
Rental Toyota Land Cruiser for 13 days certified for mountain F roads: $2300
Camera Gear:
* D810, 70-200, 14-24, 35mm, 105 macro
* ND filters
* tripod
* wireless trigger
* 4 DSLR batteries, + 6 AAA batteries for wireless trigger
* battery chargers
* rain sleeve
* 3 DVDs to be placed under tripod feet to prevent sinking into the sand/mud/whatever
Camping gear:
*4 season tent with a high hydrostatic head (HH) rating (floor should be 10,000 and fly at minimum 1500), sleeping bag (dri down!), sleeping pad
*waterproof gear (rain jacket, rain paints, gortex hiking boots)
*Wind proof - my coat is both rain and wind proof and I recommend a quality one if money allows (Arcteryx, Marmot, Patagonia, North Face, Mountain Hardware...etc)
*two backpacks: 85L pack for my long haul into the wilderness with camera insert and a 40L pack as a basic carry
*Camping Card - 110 Euro This is worth every cent that allows you to crash at any of the 41 camp sites listed
*Chip + Pin and chip + signature enabled card. Preferably a travel card that has travel insurance for car rental AND does not accrue ridiculous foreign transaction fees. I recommend looking into Chase, AMEX and potentially your own bank.
*If you plan on running out into the wilderness leave your route/plan with SafeTravel. They have a tonne of great information on their site
*If you have the cash, grab a PLB SafeTravel. I especially recommend getting one especially if you're going to be alone
*Snacks. Bringing some along with me, but purchasing the rest from stops along the way
