Who is your favorite author, why and what is their greatest work in your opinion?

It's funny you mention Hemingway, because out of ALL the great literary cannon writers, he's actually the ONLY one I can't read.

I don't know why... but I just can't get through a single novel of his... it's like painful torture to me!

But I KNOW full well that I'm the one who is in the wrong here. There are so many great and respected literary analysis, and countless people over the decades who just love Hemingways works.

So it's certainly NOT the case that all those people are wrong, and I'm right!

Ergo: I'm obviously the one who is wrong and mistaken here.

But still... even knowing that I'm wrong to dislike Hemingway...

I just can't finish even one novel of his... no matter how hard I try.

(And I've read really big classic novels like Vanity Fair, and War and Peace, etc... and I got through those cover to cover and found them pretty interesting.)
