Who is your greatest leader in your countries' history? Why?

There were quite few who were pretty good whether you compare them to contemporaries, or to politicians nowadays. For the sake of brevity I will only consider my favourite head of states, and head of governments.

I. István's methods may be controversial but he was definitely a very capable politician, general, and administrator. He achieved a total unity of the country, he secured 30 year peace with the HRE, even more with the real Roman Empire, and when peace with the HRE broke down, he beat the imperial army into pulp.

I. László inherited an instable, unruly country, thoughly pacified it, played the game of thrones pretty well, and put his nephew on the throne of Croatia.

I. Kálmán secured the Croatian-Hungarian union, advanced the state administration, the army, and the justice-system of the country tremendously.

III. Béla - modern administration, two decades of peace, restoring the southern borders which his brother lost to the Romans.

I. Károly - inherited a country little short of dissolution, performed an administrative and economic miracle, left a unified country to his son, which was amongst the richest in contemporary Europe.

two Hunyadis - no justification needed

Báthori István - not so good for us, but still one of the most capable rulers in history through and through, also created winged hussars, which is just to badass to not to mention.

Bocskai - rallied a defeated and gutted nation, made possible the practice free religion in royal Hungary, despite being Catholic himself.

Bethlen - golden age of Transylvania, he set Transylvania on the path to liberate the whole country, both a capable diplomat, and a great military commander. Also an economic miracle.

III. Pállfy János - very good real politician, without him Rákóczi's revolt might have had actual repercussions, he brokered a peace good for everyone, also a very capable military commander. Which is not evidently a bonus in his case, but still.

Batthyány - kept the nation together in the greatest turmoil of the XIXth century, administered the enfranchisement of serfes, created the foundation of the national army. Tried to avoid civil war till the last minute, he only resigned when he thought his person is in the way of peaceful agreement. Also, just for comparison, how effective politician he was, Austria had five different governments in the span of Batthyány's premiership.

Görgey - one of the best military commanders of all time, little gullible as politician, but he kept together the army, and in his short dictatorship, in very stressful circumstances he made the right decision, saving hundreds, if not thousands of his comrades.

Deák - great realpolitician, lawgiver etc.

Tisza István - the only leader of the Monarchy, who tried to dissuade the king from the war, when the war was decided he argued against the annexation of Serbia. It's a pity he was as dutiful as we he was, and went along with the war instead of resigning.

Bethlen - consolidation of the country after a lost world war in dire economic situation.
