WIBTA For not getting rid of my dog?

YWBTA

Your dog's temperament sounds like mine. I have 2 labs, I can take away their food, treats, toys, really anything no problem. But if another dog comes near my male's food or treats he growls. We had a 14 year old blind Beagle who would smell the food and want it. When is was young he snapped at her (she was fine, scared but fine).

The reason for this is they know I will give back their food, treats, toys, whatever but another dog is going to eat the food or treats. Knowing this, we feed the dogs in separate cages. We watch when we give them treats or chews. Our female knows not to go near him when he is eating and avoids him and the area he is in.

I think as long as you keep a careful eye on your son and dog at meal times, you should be fine. But know that if you ever need someone to watch your dog they need to be aware that he does not like other dogs near his food.
