WIBTA if I didn’t let two students go to a “district wide taste test”.

YWBTA. As a music teacher I’m absolutely disgusted at the amount of educators saying that music is not important or less than ELA class. Different students have different needs and if you were GENUINELY concerned about the students you would encourage them to participate in ALL areas of their academics, not just what you deem important. Music teaches so much more than just “playing an instrument”. I’m baffled that fellow educators don’t understand that music is about developing discipline, teamwork, perseverance, social emotional development, and more. How dare you decide what a student should and should not have the opportunity to learn. This is so clearly about YOU and YOUR test scores. Let the kids learn and explore and maybe consider a different career path if you’re not here to support the KIDS.
