Will Flash Be Trashed? | LINUX Unplugged 101

Yep what got me about the article like I commented about in another thread here about the article.

Even tho I agree with many of your assessments and issues paper cuts about Plasma 5 it is still too new. And is it fair to compare Gnome shell a.k.a. Gnome 3 which started in Apr. 2011 with Plasma 5 that started in mid-2014 as a fair and balanced comparison? I mean Gnome 3 has had a few more years to bake in and get there.

Also Gnome 3 is a lot more keyboard-centric and of simpler basic functions requiring you to add a dozen unknown 3rd party plug-ins to achieve more function and feature (PPA's anyone?). I mean if it is so complete than why the high degree of need and popularity for plugins? And do those plugins break on regular schedules of updating? How smooth and functioning is that? How about sticking with Gtk when rest are moving to Qt? And 3rd party GTK3 themes have been breaking left and right everytime a new version of Gnome is released.

Sorry as pointed out comparing a baking for 4 years Gnome 3 vs. a 1 year Plasma 5 desktops I find is unfair and notice Gnome 3 lovers seem to be missing or ignoring that simple fact. Also Gnome is designed for simplicity where KDE is designed for kitchen sink. And each are aimed at different users base. So no need to a us vs. them when comparing.

Also isn't developing a more minimal less feature capable DE means faster and smoother development? And you end up with a smoother and more integrated less paper cut Desktop? For me I need the more customizing built-in and more capable and feature rich mature apps. As for me it isn't the Desktop experience so much as the Desktop applications using to getting the job done.

Sorry for the rant. But getting so tired of us vs. them when it comes to personal choice of what desktop is best for me. And all others heavy emotional investment in their choice isn't going to sway me in my choices. Gnome 3 isn't a better Desktop experience Period! not for me. But smile when a user finds his special place even when it's Gnome 3.
