Will jiu jitsu training help my mentally?

You’re putting out a lot of bad information. Long term positive change is literally what we are trained to facilitate as therapists. You have to have an M.D. to prescribe SSRI’s, which the majority of therapists do not. We are trained to only label someone with a diagnosis if absolutely necessary for insurance purposes, let alone refer someone for medication. It’s far from a first line of defense. To discourage someone who has been struggling with mental health for years to see a mental health professional, especially with the information you have, is irresponsible. OP could be struggling with something extremely treatable without medication, and it may be a problem that he can’t just exercise away. Either way, an evaluation could be an extremely positive first step for them.
