Why will the Oakland Athletics exceed expectations? Why won't they?

follow them more closely i guess? everyone saw them coming last year i think with their entire lineup turning over from the first to the second half of 2017, and how much better they were in the second half. they were a “surprise team” but they were everyone’s pick for “surprise team” so it doesn’t really count.

they should take a small step back this year but will be back around 100 wins the following year with manaea back and luzardo and puk up for good. pitching is their one weakness and it wasn’t addressed in the offseason. also lost lowrie who was probably their best player last year and profar probably won’t do as well, and we could see chapman come back down to earth a little bit too.
