Working on the Shen level doesn't really happen until you've built a proper foundation. If you do work directly on the Shen dimension, you can create a havoc in your energetic system, massively drain yourself, become mentally unstable and so forth. If it truly opened, you would see spirits, immaterial beings, and you'd get messed up by your fears and not having dealt with the lower energetics first.

Instead, if you actually want spiritual development (which means you've already risen beyond 'self') you need to pursue a genuine lineage of internal alchemy which starts from the bottom and goes upwards. Just like building a house, you need a proper foundation.
