I really can’t believe this is as big of a deal as people are making it out to be. It wasn’t a punch, it was an open hand slap after an offensive joke was told about his wife, something that really wouldn’t be out of place at any bar/club/gathering of any kind. If it was literally anywhere but the Oscars this wouldn’t have even made the news. I guess the argument could be made that it was live and aired to thousands of people, but these are celebrities. Being watched by thousands of people isn’t out of the ordinary, so they act just as human.

Was it immature and rash? Sure. But the amount of people calling for him to be cancelled and for his career to be ended over something so benign is insane. The fact that it was a head line that Chris Rock wouldn’t PRESS CHARGES is laughable at best. Can you imagine if you got slapped at a bar and called the cops? They would laugh in your face and point you to the nearest box of tissues.

Such a weird public outcry.
