I'm not defending Will Smith's action. But Chris Rock was out of line with that joke. Jada Pickett Smith has alopecia and has lost her hair because of it. By making her the butt of the joke, Chris Rock shamed her for something outside of her control.

While Jada may be fine with being the butt of the joke, hair loss like that is a real issue for a lot of women that can have detrimental effects on their mental health. To see women like Jada appear in public gives them hope that society won't judge them for something they can't control about their body.

I would hope that Chris Rock would have recognized that and just left it alone. The joke wouldn't have been funny if she lost her hair from cancer treatment. It's not as though she shaved her head to make a fashion or political statement. Chris Rock is the asshole here, and people seem to missing that fact because of Will Smith's reaction.
