My personal opinion is this. “black” as in “proud to be black” or “black king” is a thing because, in an american context, the original african american people do not know their original nationality as they were brought over as slaves, so there is a legitimacy to the “black” identity because african americans all have the same experience, and have no african country to identify with. Whereas there is no “white” identity in the same way there is a black one, because generally (again in america) the white people there know they are originally Polish, Italian, Irish, British or whatever.

Now the whole “proud to be black” type statements are justified in american context due to the obvious slavery, racism, segregation and oppression that they experienced. I think it is obvious that in a situation where any minority is shat on by a majority, there will be a movement created within the minority about empowering oneself and being proud of who you are.

I think it wouldn’t be okay to say “proud to be white” because what is “white”? As I explained there isn’t “white” to the same degree there is “black” in america. A white person can be proud to be american, a white person can be proud to be british, proud to be german. A white american can be proud to be originally from ireland. There is nothing wrong with this at all IMO, and I don’t think many people would object.

Now why have I just spoke for ages about america? because my explanation as to why some british boys who can trace back to their original nationality (eg Saka is nigerian) would say this is because american culture is so dominant, and black people from all over the world have especially taken to american culture and copy a lot of stuff they do.

Personally I wish we could move on from all this race bullshit, which includes people writing instagram captions like this one, but I just wanted to give my opinion as to why I think they are “okay”.
