Witches are white washed now, apparently.

Pretty much every culture ever has had a concept of magic, sorcery, witchcraft, witches, warlocks, shamans, oracles, etc. Norse mythology, Celtic mythology, Slavic paganism, Greek mythology, Anglo-Saxon paganism, etc. has existed far longer than any human alive today has. It existed before indigenous Europeans made contact with people outside their region so they came up with the concept independently (not saying they were the first ones to create it, but they didn't appropriate it).

You cannot find a single mythology or religion that didn't have some sort of term for a man or woman who practiced witchcraft/magic/sorcery/etc. or held powers beyond normal human capabilities (how they viewed said man or woman who practiced witchcraft or held said powers is another story though). In western society, we call them witches (or warlocks if they're men though witch is technically a gender neutral term), but the concept is pretty much universal.

I'm seriously sick to death of people believing that European/western culture was entirely stolen or "appropriated" from African, Middle Eastern, or Asian culture. There's so many beautiful stories, works of art, mythologies, canons, etc. that originated from Europeans (as well as beautiful works from African, South American, Asian, and Middle Eastern cultures). To say that it was all just stolen or appropriated is really sad IMO.

I don't think the person who said the term witch is "white-washed" is a bad person or anything, I just wish they'd educate themselves and open themselves up to the amazing works across the world.
