Wizards no longer releases information about how many cards they print of any given set. The numbers are far smaller today than they were in 1994-1995
Actually, the printing numbers now are over 10 times bigger than they were back then. Maro has confirmed that multiple times.
There is just as much 3rd Edition printed as 4th Edition. Both of these sets were available on store shelves for several years after they were printed. You can still find Homelands, Ice Age, Alliances and Fallen Empires packs or 4th Edition packs in many stores, more easily than you could find any other set printed in later years.
"3rd edition" didn't exist. "4th edition" only has duals in the italian release which was, compared to the numbers of english 4th, tiny. Compared to current numbers, negligible.
The demand is a lot lower than people are valuing the cards for, the price of the cards is only by virtue that Legacy was the only available eternal format , and people haven't woken up and realized that in actuality they should be $10 cards again.

Right, because the 2nd biggest constructed tournament of all times is not a legacy tournament, right? And the biggest non-GP tournaments of all times in europe weren't legacy, right? And of course, even though all scg legacy opens got 500+ players, no one wants to play in a format with those cards.
