You completely misunderstand the entire point of the article. There are other registered republicans running for office who because of this rule are being functionally barred. Governor bill weld is registered but the leadership of the party made a conscious decision to ignore him. Even though his chances of winning are astronomical the people have a right to vote for him. The chairwoman of the Republican party said it is her duty to get the president re-elected. That is complete bullshit antithetical to American democracy. Her Goal should be to get a republican elected in a fair and open system that gives all people the same chance of winning but instead we have this. A sham of a system where a few people are allowed to steamroll and circumvent a fair and open system.
